Thursday Dec 22

Well, it was a decent start to the Poetry unit today.

I got to read a few poems to start off the class, including the one in the video above. I also got to read a poem by Antonio Machado, too. I got through the German in the video rather well, but my Spanish wasn't good at all.

I did show how to read a poem while using the Writer's Almanac website, too.

Here are the poems we did yesterday and today. I also got the due dates posted on here and on the wall in the classroom.

Tuesday Dec 20 and Wednesday Dec 21

Tuesday was the last day we were working on our CA in class.

Wednesday we went back to reading and doing Poetry

We got the Poetry Unit outline and we took a look at how the Double Entry Journal works for Task 1 for the Unit.

I also pointed out the Task 2 and 3 presentations, too.

See the "Links for Poetry" on the right side of this site!

On to Thursday!

A cool poem in this film, too

Monday Dec 19

It's the second to last day of the Culminating Task. Or Activity. The thingy worth 15% of your final mark we can't seem to name properly in class.

I've typed this before and I'll click and paste it here again:

I'm hoping that everyone is getting themselves ready for the in-class essay writing on Monday and Tuesday.

Tomorrow is it, as they say.

Then, we are off to Poetry.

Friday Dec 16

I'm hoping that everyone is getting themselves ready for the in-class essay writing on Monday and Tuesday.

I'm hoping that everyone is getting themselves ready for the in-class essay writing on Monday and Tuesday.

I'm hoping that everyone is getting themselves ready for the in-class essay writing on Monday and Tuesday.

I wonder if I repeat that .... that it'll happen.

In any case, today was the last day in the library for helping people with their CA preparation. Monday we are back in the portable and going to be writing the final CA essay in class.

I'm hoping that everyone is getting themselves ready for the in-class essay writing on Monday and Tuesday.

(I had to try and get the message out.)

Also, links for Wordpress on the right.

Embedding a video

Hey there

Here is the video

I had to pick a video to demonstrate how easy it was to embed a video onto a blog.

In retrospect, this video is awesome.

So, we worked on our course culminating activity today; everything is going well. I hope everyone is ready to get the in-class essay done on Monday.

Check the requirements of the assignment and what you are allowed to bring into the class on Monday!

Wednesday Dec 14

So ... yeah, Wednesday.

We were back in the library ... and working along on the "research" part of the essays that we are going to write on Monday and Tuesday.

Should be downright epic.

I did get a number of links for this CA. I posted them here for all to see with code names. If, by the way, you don't like your own code name, let me know. Mr Pink is still available.

Update Tuesday Dec 13

Oh my ... we are through the looking glass.

As I mentioned in class, I was impressed by the speed at which this class got through the creation of their own blogs.

Very cool.

Now, the hard work on the research and sharing begins to help each other with the Culminating Activity essay we are writing next week in class.

I'm interested in bearing witness to the ride. I'm also honoured to be a part of it.

This was me at the end of class today.

So ... here "IT" is ... and one of my students is reading this in a monotone ....

 reeeeeeeeeeeellllllllyyyyyyyyyy niiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccccceeeeee

In any case, we got the Terms/Theme study done today, as well as some discussion about how the CA will work this week and next.

I'm hoping this is a cool learning experience and something we can use moving forward into Poetry.

Which by the way, we showed this as an introduction:

Friday Dec 9th

marathon

We finished the novel today.

 Take a breath.

 Take a moment.

We passed the test, ladies and gentlemen. We adapted and overcame an obstacle together. We are awesome.

In any case, we got these questions for homework. We'll figure out the due date for Part 2 of A Separate Peace .... right now.

Let's say Tuesday for the Part two. Yeah, Tuesday. I'll get it up on the walls and online today.

Thursday Dec 8

Well, it was the return of Batman today in class.

At least we were able to get through Chapter 11 and into Chapter 12.

We are going to finish the book, either tomorrow or Monday. Tomorrow is a Mass day, so the schedule is a little off. I did have it up in class so that students could see the different starting times of the different classes.

We also chatted about the CA for this course, the days remianing and the exam days.

Wednesday Dec 7

We had Batman in as a guest reader today ... not really, it was me, just with a bit of a throat issue. Not sure if it's a cold, but it certainly made my throat sound like

In any case, we are almost done the novel. We got to the start of Chapter 11 in the novel. We got questions 16, 17, 20, 23 and 25 for homework.

I also confirmed that my students got the Theme Study and Character sketch sheets, too.

On to tomorrow!

Monday and Tuesday Dec 6

Monday ... well, I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I didn't update this blog.

Well, we've been reading quite a bit. We got to page 126 in the cool teacher textbook. That's a fair amount of reading done.

Tuesday was a bit slow of a reading, as my throat wasn't quite agreeing with me that reading should be done. Ah well, I showed it who was boss ... um, sort of.

We also got the short quiz done on A Separate Peace part one. We need to work on being patient and quiet during those quizzes.

I also showed the outline of the dates and what we are going to be doing when for the culminating activity. I should be able to get it to my students by the end of the week. Need one more proofreading session.

Friday Dec 2

So today in class ... we did a significant amount of reading for A Separate Peace - we got through the entire of Chapter 7 in the novel ...

We chatted very very briefly about the culminating activity, too.

Oh and we talked about due dates and these apps today too:

Thursday Dec 1

Yeah, snow.

It's coming. Be prepared, ladies and gents.

Speaking of which, I let people know about the dates for the Culminating Activity for this course. In any case, I did get word that the CA will consist of an essay. I do have them, but I also asked my students to use their electronic devices to write them into their own calendar apps. We'll work on it together in class during those days I asked the students to input into their own devices.

I'll post the dates later on, too, loyal non-student readers. Although you might ask and see if our students did, in fact, input the dates for themselves.

Right. For the current unit, we read to page 71 in the teacher version and the 78 in the blue version. We also made mention of the name of the river in class, called "The Pooky Bear" river. An inside joke there, sorry.

We also commented on the "life is over" idea that people have for Phineas. It warmed my heart to have some of my students reference Wheelchair Sports, even the Invictus Games as places where people with physical disabilities can excel.
